NTPC Ltd. and the Government of Maharashtra have signed a “Supplementary Agreement” for the development of Pumped Storage Hydro Electric Project. The original Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on September 03, 2024 for development of two Pumped Storage Hydro Electric Projects, namely Amba and Kumbe, with a total capacity of 1,800 MW.

Based on detailed survey, optimization studies, and technical evaluation taking into consideration the topography, reservoir capacity, and project viability, the capacity and location of these projects have now been improved.

As per the supplementary agreement, the capacity of Amba Pumping Stations has been increased from 800 MW to 1,500 MW, while the capacity of Kumhe Pumpkin Hydro Electric Project has been increased from 1,000 MW to 1,100 MW. This will significantly increase the overall power generation capacity.

This supplementary agreement incorporates revised project norms in the original MoU and keeps all other terms and conditions unchanged at the time of formalizing these changes.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, along with Revenue Minister, Shri Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and Water Resources (Vidarbha, Tapi, and Konkan Development Irrigation Development Corporation) and Disaster Management Minister, Girish Mahajan at the signing ceremony.
